Blue Plate Special WDVX – Abby the Spoon Lady & Fly By Night Rounders
Always fun to visit the Blue Plate Special WDVX.
NOVEMBER 2016 – The Fly By Night Rounders were happy to go play a show on the The WDVX Blue Plate Special ®- a live performance radio show held at noon, with host Red Hickey Monday through Friday and Doug Lauderdale on Saturday, at the WDVX studio inside the Knoxville Visitor Center. Knoxville is only a short drive, and has a lot of things to do. We love busking in downtown Knoxville’s huge open square.
I tend to drive up to the radio show about once a year, and we tend to visit Knoxville a several times throughout the year. I’ve posted some videos below of the three of us performing on the stage. Chris Rodrigues brought out one of his original songs “Cold Down Here”. Notice the blue plates on the wall? Those are pictures of some of the fine musicians that have passed through the Knoxville Visitors Center for the show. I think I might be the first professional spoon player to pass through.
We are already looking forward to next year. The drive between Asheville and Knoxville is beautiful, and there are a short handful of excellent diners along the route. We got to watch the mountain leaves changing colors right at the perfect time of year. I took a lot of pictures of the nature, I absolutely love this place. Our next stop will be to hang out in Bristol at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum – as they also have a radio show – WBCM Radio Bristol. The countryside here is rich with great music and fine players, very interesting to explore.
