Abby the Spoon Lady has a knack for finding stories that are nestled within America’s underbelly. It is very difficult to gather these recordings, however, the Spoon Lady has been vigilant. You can find Abby the Spoon Lady volunteering for Asheville FM radio in Asheville, or, you could listen to some of those recordings by visiting the appropriate channels on YouTube.
Consider taking a trip for yourself, or visiting buskers in your area. Or, you could even visit the Asheville area. Whatever the circumstances, talking to your neighbors and the people around you creates community and a safer environment to live in. Whichever way you decide to reach out, reaching out is a very enlightening thing that teaches us about our surroundings. Or, more importantly, It creates a window where we can view other people’s points of views.
Below is a clip from CBC Radio Toronto where the Spoon Lady discusses the importance of taking these recordings of street performers and travelers. She also discusses the importance of street performance and the practice of your free speech rights. And yes, Abby does discuss panhandling… and no, she is not a fan.
